FAQ

Space--the final frontier. Here at Mercury 3, we strongly believe that. We are a company with the goal to supply Earth with the natural resources it needs by using the resources of other planets relatively close to home.

The most-used metal on planet Earth by humans is iron. Luckily for us Mercury has plenty of iron. And because Mercury is too hot to sustain pretty much any known life form, it is a PERFECT place to collect resources without harming ANY other organisms that we know of.  It is almost like if you were trapped in a room and there was a hot dog lying on the ground. There is no other organism that can eat it, and you’re not eating it, so is just a waste. So, you naturally would eat it.

Mercury 3 has designed its ENTIRE design off the idea of sustainability. The three in Mercury 3 stands for the three pillars of sustainability--social, economic, and environmental. Mercury 3 will be a sustainable project for three main reasons:

  1. We are run off of an infinite energy source--fusion. At the core of our station will be a massive fusion reactor that is 100% clean energy and is surrounded by 20 inches of lead just in case there is a meltdown so radiation won't get through the lead boundary. We also have two extra backup main reactors just in case. And the third layer of redundancy is 600 solar panels.

  1. For food our astronauts will eat dried food prepared on Earth. However in addition to this they will make the bulk of their food in a green house on Mercury.

  1. The third way that we will be sustainable is that we will greatly cut equipment costs because 95% of all the materials on the station will be made on Mercury using a massive 3D printer that will use iron coil from the iron mined on Mars to print with. This way we will not have to transport huge drilling equipment because it will all be made there.

The iron mined from this project will be nearly 100% profit.

Mercury 3 has designed a business plan that funds almost all of its mining expenses by crowd funding and sponsorships. Some of the things we will sell are people’s names to be printed on  landing parachutes, the space ship and walls of the 3D printer rooms. The other BIG and MAIN way that we will sponsor it is through creating the largest media event ever. Imagine what happened when we went to the moon; now imagine what will happen when we go to Mercury!! Everybody will watch!! We will also have a constantly-running reality TV show from Mercury.

We will mine on Mercury by using a technique called surface mining. This is where iron and dust are scraped off the surface, then collected and put into a sifter. Then we filter the material, and finally we grind it to powder and use extremely high powered magnets to remove the iron shavings. Some of it will be melted down, by putting it in a solar oven on the surface, and turned into iron coil for the 3D printer. The rest will be put into storage until the supply ship arrives.

When people think about going to Mercury they are usually skeptical. We were also, at first. There are many issues regarding the feasibility of this mission. This is why we have made a FAQ page to answer many of these questions.
